We are Elephant Box. Two women who got together to solve a problem that was bugging us.
Plastic in general is a real problem and throwing away our plastic lunch boxes when they broke was beginning to grate. It turned out to be a simple solution! Design and produce a beautiful and durable stainless steel lunch box.
The elephant box design is inspired by the Indian tiffin. In India these tiffins are used over and over again for many many years and are the perfect thing for carrying your food around. Perfect for dhal and rice maybe but not if you want to pack a different kind of packed lunch. So our box is designed to be as sturdy and long lasting as a tiffin and just as useful for storing and carrying all sorts of things.
Our factory in Northern India have great expertise in stainless steel manufacture and Joy has visited twice to develop our box. This box is one of a kind. There's nothing else quite like it.
We crowdfunded in May 2015 and raised the capital to get our first boxes into production. We were overwhelmed by the support and positivity our campaign generated. Our factory is busy with our first order and a third of those are going straight off to our crowdfunding supporters.
As we expand our range we will work with our factory to produce the best quality and most useful products we can think of.
We want to reduce the amount of plastic being produced and consumed in the world. We will do this by producing a practical and viable alternative to plastic containers.
Joy has the vision and is pretty sure you can make the world a better place if you keep the faith. She also likes running (a lot)!
Liz enjoys tackling the strategic problems involved in setting up a brand new company. She's happiest when strolling along the beach with her feet in the waves.
None of this could have been possible with out the kind and generous folk who supported our crowdfunding campaign. Here are some of those people!
And these amazing bods did a brilliant job helping us with all kinds of things to get us off the ground:
