Single-Wall Bottle FAQs

A 500ml water bottle holds half a litre — roughly equivalent to a standard small bottle of water from a shop. It's compact enough to fit in a jacket pocket, school bag, or cup holder, making it one of our most popular sizes for kids and adults who want something lightweight and easy to carry.

The Elephant Box 500ml water bottle is approximately 21cm tall with a diameter of around 7cm — slim enough to fit most standard bottle holders and bag side pockets. Exact dimensions are listed in the product details above.

Yes — the 500ml size is one of our most popular for children. It's compact, lightweight, and fits easily in a school bag. The stainless steel construction means it handles being dropped, knocked, and generally treated like a school bag item without cracking or breaking. It also comes with a 15 year warranty, for your peace of mind.

If 500ml isn't quite right, we offer a range of sizes across our stainless steel water bottle collection — including larger options for longer days out and smaller sizes for younger children.

Our single-wall bottles are made from 100% 304 grade stainless steel. The seal that makes the cap leakproof is made from food-grade LFGB certified silicone.

Yes! These bottles are 100% leakproof. The stainless steel cap screws securely down onto a replaceable LFGB certified silicone seal. Nice and simple - and no plastic!

Our single-wall bottles are expertly crafted from premium 304 grade steel. The steel is thicker than cheaper alternatives and are 0.4mm thick. Whether they survive being dropped depends on a few things - how far and what surface they land on, but in most cases they can take a lot of wear and tear. One customer even told us that their bottle survived being driven over by a commercial mower on his local football pitch!

These bottles are not insulated so they won't keep your drinks hot or cold. These bottles are great at keeping the weight down. You don't always want to lug around twice the weight and there’s easy ways to keep your water cold - you can add a bunch of ice cubes in the wide mouth or keep your bottle in the fridge the day before you take it with you. The other reason we make single wall bottles is that they use half the resources of insulated versions! We don't recommend freezing bottles - it invalidates the warranty and it can warp the steel.

No — as a single-wall bottle it's not designed for hot drinks, as the outside of the bottle will get hot to the touch. For hot drinks or drinks you want to keep cold for hours, take a look at our insulated water bottle range.

Yes, our non-insulated steel finish bottles can go in the dishwasher. Please wash the steel cap by hand to look after the seal and thread. The Kids bottle has a powder coat finish, so wash that one by hand too.

Washing by hand:

Hand wash with mild dish soap and a soft brush or sponge
Avoid bleach-based or high-alkaline detergents
Rinse and dry promptly rather than letting water sit inside
Avoid leaving electrolyte or sports drinks in the bottle for extended periods

Check out our plastic-free cleaning accessories for a bottle brush to go with your purchase. If you need to give your bottle a deep clean - check out our blog on how to clean your water bottle.

Wash the cap by hand in warm soapy water, then leave upside down to dry. Don’t soak or submerge the cap, and keep the cap out of the dishwasher. The carry loop joins the cap through a small opening, and soaking lets water inside. If water gets in, shake the cap out and leave to dry upside down.

Yes — there's no plastic touching your drink. No lining, no coating, no plastic components in contact with the liquid. Just food-grade stainless steel and an LFGB certified silicone seal.

You can use the single-wall bottles for fizzy water as long as you pair it with the sports cap. The metal cap is not compatible with carbonated drinks.

Food-grade 18/8 stainless steel (the material used in all Elephant Box bottles) is non-reactive and does not leach metal into food or drink under normal conditions. A metallic taste is almost always caused by one of the following:

New product residue. A thin layer of manufacturing oil or packaging material can remain on a brand-new item. A thorough hand-wash with warm water and washing-up liquid before first use removes this.
Mineral-rich water. Hard tap water or certain mineral waters carry dissolved minerals that can register as a metallic taste, particularly in an uncoated steel container.
Residue build-up. Tea, coffee, and fruit juices can leave deposits inside bottles over time. Regular cleaning with a bottle brush and, occasionally, a bicarbonate of soda rinse eliminates this.
Carbonated drinks. The carbonic acid in fizzy drinks can react with trace surface deposits. Rinsing promptly after use prevents this.

If a metallic taste persists after cleaning, please contact us and we will investigate.

They are great, excellent size and keep the water cool when hiking up spain.

Great quality

Great quality, sturdy and no plastic 👍

LOVE ITTT

Exactly what I wanted, not heavy when filled, it’s silver (I like silver) and it’s a practical size. I also appreciate that it doesn’t leave a metallic taste to my water at all. :)

Just fits into my handbag

Just fits into my handbag. I like the wide top so i can drink from it easily. I use distilled water with added minerals so this is precious pure water and it deserves a good container that will not leech into it and it remains pure.

Great size

Lightweight, easy to open and great to clean.
Very reasonably priced.
Thoroughly recommend.

I took my water bottle with me to a 2-week meditation festival

I took my water bottle with me to a 2-week meditation festival and found it very useful to have with me - just the right size to be portable. By sipping a full bottle of water, one in the morning & one in the afternoon, I was able to increase my water intake & stay focused on the meditations while the weather was extremely hot.

lightweight due to the single wall construction

lightweight due to the single wall construction.
304 stainless steel
No plastic
all stainless lid - no wood
I bought 5 of these, but I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5, because every now & then the lids get stiff to unscrew due to the silicone washer being partially pulled off.

Very happy with these stainless steel water bottles so nice to no longer be drinking out of plastic

Very happy with these stainless steel water bottles so nice to no longer be drinking out of plastic. A very good price too.

Great water bottle

Great water bottle. Doesn't leak. Would definitely buy again.

Simple, gorgeous and light

I absolutely love then simplicity and style of this super light bottle. Love the tiny containers I purchased as well. The lids are the best design I have ever had. The communication and the super fast delivery was brilliant.

A better bottle

I really like this bottle. It has been a good replacement for the gradually degrading plastic bottles I used to carry around and it is higher capacity than my hipflask (and draws less suspicion). I like the lid with its handle and the elephant logo is nice. Of course, perfection is hard to attain, and there are a few things I'd note. I don't think the steel is the best stainless; it's very good, it has no odour, but is specified as top shelf only for the dishwasher, which as I understand probably means it's 18/8 rather than 18/10. It's a little noisy to open in the library. The opening is for pouring from, a bit wide to wrap lips around like a plastic bottle, I'm personally ok drinking like that, but it does make it easier to spill on yourself. And if you're trying to get away from plastic, this is so close, but has a small ring of plastic in the cap, presumably to make a better leakproof seal; still very little plastic will ever touch your drink. So only small quibbles I only mention because it's a premium product and a premium price.

Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed review. We're delighted to hear that the bottle has been a successful replacement for your plastic bottles and that you're enjoying the design and capacity.

Just to clarify one point: the sealing ring inside the cap is not plastic but food-grade LFGB-certified silicone. We use silicone here to create a reliable leakproof seal while keeping plastic use to an absolute minimum.

We also appreciate your feedback on the drinking experience and lid design. Customer comments like yours help us continue to improve our products.

Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience.

Amazing quality bottles

Good size light

Good size light practical

It ticked all the boxes for me.

This bottle ticks all the boxes for me. It’s light, well-balanced, and the 500 ml size feels just right — neither too big nor too heavy. The design is sturdy and has a clean, shiny elegance with a subtle, understated logo.

The twist-off lid feels secure (though I’ll update this after a few more months of use). I especially like the square steel handle on the cap — it helps with opening and makes it easy to attach the bottle to a backpack. Drinking from it feels natural and comfortable.

This is actually just a really nice thing

This is actually just a really nice thing. It’s solid and will be easy to clean.

Perfect size

I was after a slightly smaller water bottle to have in a bag and this was perfect. Robust, water tight and keeps the drink cool. Delivery was superb, extremely quick

Perfect!

Perfect for out & about when I don't want to lug my copper flask with me (or have to drink from a plastic bottle!). Lightweight & sturdy, it actually holds slightly more than the 500mls which is even better. The carrying handle is great too. 10/10 for quality. An excellent buy.
