Steel sandwich boxes vs plastic — worth the switch?

A plastic sandwich box has a shelf life measured in months, not years — the lid warps in the dishwasher, the hinge snaps, and it never quite loses the smell of last term's egg mayo. Stainless steel doesn't have that problem. It's dense enough to survive being dropped, smooth enough that nothing lingers on the surface, and it won't discolour no matter how many beetroot sandwiches you pack. Buy one properly, and there's a good chance it outlasts the person carrying it to school.

Leakproof or classic — which style of sandwich box do you need?

Not every sandwich box in this range needs to seal shut, and that's by design. The Clip & Seal Lunchbox uses a silicone gasket and clip closure for a genuinely leakproof fit — good for salads with dressing already added, or anything liquid. The Elephant Box, Two-in-One, Jumbo Two-In-One and Square Salad Box are single-body stainless steel with a close-fitting lid rather than a sealed one — ideal for sandwiches, wraps and dry sides, where a snug fit matters more than an airtight one.

What sizes do the sandwich boxes come in?

The range runs from a simple 600ml box for a single sandwich, right up to the original 2 litre Elephant Box for a full packed lunch. The Two-in-One and Jumbo Two-In-One both add a smaller pull-out pod — 200ml and 350ml respectively — so a sandwich and a side can travel separately and meet at lunchtime. The Clip & Seal Small holds 800ml and comes with a removable divider if you want to split it yourself.

Are the sandwich boxes dishwasher, oven and freezer safe?

Yes across the board — every sandwich box in this range is dishwasher safe. The Elephant Box, Jumbo Two-In-One and Clip & Seal are also oven safe (lid off, up to 200°C) and freezer safe, so they double up for meal prep as well as packed lunches. The Clip & Seal is the only one in the range that's microwave safe with the lid removed; the rest aren't designed for the microwave.

Sandwich Box FAQs

Every sandwich box in this range is made from food-grade stainless steel — mostly 304 grade, with the Two-in-One, Jumbo Two-In-One and Square Salad Box made from 204 grade, a slightly more workable steel used for their shape. Both grades are toxin-free and BPA-free.

Only the Clip & Seal Lunchbox is — its silicone seal and clip closure make it 100% leakproof and airtight. The Elephant Box, Two-in-One, Jumbo Two-In-One and Square Salad Box are all stainless steel with a snug lid, which is ideal for sandwiches and dry food, but not sealed for liquids.

Yes — stainless steel is non-porous, so it doesn't dry food out or trap moisture the way some plastics can, and a snug-fitting or leakproof lid keeps air out. Your sandwich should taste the same at lunchtime as it did when you packed it.

Yes — several boxes in the range are just as suited to a salad, a side dish, or fridge leftovers as they are a sandwich. The Clip & Seal Lunchbox, with its leakproof seal, is a particularly good option for salads with dressing already added.

Yes — the Square Salad Box and Two-in-One Lunchbox are popular, easy-to-manage sizes for school lunches, and the original Elephant Box has been a school bag staple for years thanks to its sturdy roll clips.

The Elephant Box, Jumbo Two-In-One and Clip & Seal Lunchbox are all oven safe up to 200°C with the lid removed. Only the Clip & Seal Lunchbox is microwave safe with the lid off — the rest of the range isn't designed for microwave use.

The Clip & Seal Lunchbox includes a removable divider so you can split it into two sections. The Two-in-One and Jumbo Two-In-One achieve the same thing with a separate snack pod that slots inside the main box.

Yes — every stainless steel sandwich box in this range is covered by a 15 year warranty. Silicone seals aren't covered under the same warranty, but spares are available separately for the Clip & Seal range.
