Which Kids' Lunch Box is Right for Your Child?

Why choose a stainless steel lunch box for kids?

Plastic lunch boxes crack, stain, and need replacing every term. Stainless steel doesn't. An Elephant Box kids' lunch box is made from food-grade 304 stainless steel — no BPA, no microplastics, nothing leaching into your child's food. They handle being thrown into school bags, dropped in the playground, and put through the dishwasher without complaint. Buy one and it'll last through primary school and beyond.

What age are these lunch boxes suitable for?

The range covers everything from toddlers and nursery age right through to older children and teenagers. Smaller, compact options work well for younger children with easy-open lids. Larger sizes suit older kids who need more food. For a full age-by-age guide, we've written a helpful post on the blog.

What is a bento lunch box?

A bento box is a lunch box with built-in sections or compartments, keeping different foods separate without extra bags or wrapping. They're popular for kids' lunches because you can pack a sandwich, fruit, snacks, and a dip all in one box without everything mixing together. Elephant Box compartment lunch boxes bring the bento concept to stainless steel — plastic-free and built to last.

Kids' Lunch Box FAQs

Stainless steel is an excellent material for carrying and storing food, making it particularly well suited to school lunchboxes. It is durable, easy to clean and does not absorb food odours or flavours. Stainless steel can be recycled repeatedly without significant loss of quality, and a well-made stainless steel lunchbox can last for many years. Almost all of our steel products are made from 304 or 18/8 grade steel. Other products are made of 204 grade steel: the Square Salad Box and the Mini Snack Pods — 204 grade steel is a bit more flexible than 304 grade which makes it easier to mold smaller items. Both are food-grade, toxin-free and safe for you and your family.

Yes, all our products are dishwasher safe (except the stainless steel water bottle caps). We know how important it is to be able to clean up a school lunchbox — especially if it's been sat forgotten in a school bag all weekend!
