Camping, Hiking & Outdoor Lunch Boxes & Water Bottles

A day outdoors puts kit through more than a kitchen ever does — dropped on gravel, crushed at the bottom of a rucksack, left in a hot car. Everything in this collection is stainless steel or built around it: lunchboxes that survive a hike, leakproof canisters for wet food on the move, water bottles light enough not to notice, and the odd bit of steel cutlery for when you forgot a fork. Mix and match to build the kit that suits your day, whether that's a picnic in the park or a proper trek. Which lunchbox works best away from a kitchen?

The original Elephant Box is a traditional tiffin-style tin — big, tough, and ideal for a proper packed lunch of sandwiches and dry snacks, but it isn't leakproof, so it's not the one to reach for if you're packing a salad with dressing or last night's leftovers. For that, the Clip & Seal range and Twist & Lock canisters use a silicone gasket to seal shut properly, so they can go in a rucksack at any angle without a worry. If you want to keep a sandwich and a snack apart without needing a full seal, the Jumbo Two-In-One splits the two with its own pull-out pod.

What size water bottle suits your day?

The 350ml bottle is our smallest and lightest, and a popular choice for kids or anywhere you want to keep bulk to a minimum. The 500ml and 750ml sizes cover most everyday outings — long enough for a walk or a day at work, small enough to fit most bag pockets. For a proper hike, a festival, or any day where refilling isn't guaranteed, the 1.2 litre bottle holds enough to last. None of our single-wall bottles are insulated, which keeps them light — add ice before you set off if you want your drink to stay cold for longer.

Sports cap or steel cap — which do you need?

Our single-wall bottles, have two caps to solve different problems. The Flip Top Sports Cap has a spout and an optional silicone straw, so you can drink one-handed without unscrewing anything — good for cycling, running, or handing a bottle to a child. The Steel Cap is a plastic-free, all-metal replacement with the same screw-thread seal as standard, plus a loop for clipping the bottle to a bag or harness with a carabiner. If you'd rather not have any plastic touching the bottle at all, the steel cap is the one to choose; if convenience while moving matters more, go for the sports cap.

Our insulated bottles have three cap options. A Sports Cap, Chug Cap and Steel Cap. all three cover the mouthpiece when not in use. the Sports Cap has an optional retractable steel straw and the Chug Cap has a wider opening and no straw is needed. the Steel Cap on the insulated bottle has a BPA free plastic lining and you don't get the noise associated with fully metal caps. A full metal cap is on its way though, for customers who want a fully plastic free bottle.

Are these products dishwasher, freezer and oven safe?

It varies by product, so it's worth checking before you wash up. The Clip & Seal range and Twist & Lock canisters are dishwasher and freezer safe, and oven safe up to 200°C with the lid off, but none of them are microwave safe.

The Elephant Box is dishwasher, oven and freezer safe too, but also isn't suited to the microwave.

We recommend handwashing the water bottles and caps.
