Leakproof Lunch Boxes

Not every box that claims to be leakproof actually is. Across the Elephant Box range, "100% leakproof" means something specific and tested — a silicone gasket clipped or twisted shut, a press-down vacuum seal, or a small silicone lid sealing a snack pot. This collection brings together every leakproof option we make, from a 50ml dressing pot to a 2 litre Clip & Seal lunchbox, so you can carry soup, salad, dressing or a full meal without wondering what state it'll be in when you open your bag. How does "leakproof" actually work?

There are three different sealing systems across this range, and it's worth knowing which one you're buying. The Clip & Seal Lunchboxes and Twist & Lock Trio use a removable food-grade silicone gasket, held shut by clips or a twist-lock lid — the seal is mechanical, so it holds regardless of what's inside or how it's carried. The Lunch Bowl and New Prep & Store use a different method: a press-down lid that creates an airtight vacuum, similar to a vacuum-sealed jar. The Seal & Go Snack Pots and Dressing Pot Pair take the simplest approach — a snug silicone lid sized to fit a small pot exactly. All three are genuinely leakproof; they just get there in different ways.

Leakproof at any temperature — or only once food's cooled?

This is the detail most leakproof claims skip over, so we won't. The Clip & Seal range, Twist & Lock Trio, Seal & Go Snack Pots and Dressing Pot Pair are sealed by their gasket or lid regardless of temperature — hot soup, straight from the pan, seals just as well as a cold salad. The Lunch Bowl and New Prep & Store are different: their vacuum seal only fully forms once food has cooled to room temperature, since steam and heat prevent the vacuum from setting. If you're planning to pack something hot and seal it straight away, the Clip & Seal or Twist & Lock ranges are the better choice; if you can let food cool first, the vacuum-sealed options work just as well.

What sizes are available?

Sizes span a wide range. At the small end, the Dressing Pot Pair holds 50ml per pot and the Seal & Go Snack Pots hold 100ml each — both suited to sauces, dips or toddler portions. The Clip & Seal Lunchbox comes in three sizes — 800ml, 1.2 litres and 2 litres — with the Medium the only one to include a removable divider as standard (the Large doesn't come with one, though a spare divider can be bought separately). The Twist & Lock Trio covers 250ml, 500ml and 700ml in one set. The Lunch Bowl holds 600ml, and the New Prep & Store spans 650ml and 1 litre in this collection, with a 2 litre option also available.

Are leakproof lunch boxes dishwasher, oven and microwave safe?

Mostly yes, with a few differences worth knowing. The Clip & Seal range and Twist & Lock Trio are dishwasher and freezer safe, and oven or microwave safe once the lid is removed. The Seal & Go Snack Pots and Dressing Pot Pair are dishwasher and freezer safe, and oven safe up to 200°C with the lid off, but not designed for the microwave. The Lunch Bowl is dishwasher safe (top shelf) and freezer safe, with a glass base that's oven and microwave safe on its own — the steel lid needs to come off first. The New Prep & Store goes a step further: its steel base is engineered to be microwave safe in its own right, so the whole container can go in the microwave with the glass lid on or off, as well as the dishwasher (top rack), oven and freezer.

Leakproof Lunch Box FAQs

It’s very important to us that everything we make is comprised of durable and toxin-free materials: All these containers are made with 304 grade stainless steel, food-grade LFGB certified silicone and borosilicate glass.

No, we avoid using plastic in any of our food containers. The Seal & Go Trio, Twist & Lock Containers & Clip and Seal Containers all nest in the cupboard.  The rest are not as convenient unfortunately.

They look similar but are built the opposite way round. The Lunch Bowl has a microwave-safe glass base with a stainless steel lid, which needs to come off before microwaving. The New Prep & Store has a microwave-safe steel base — specially engineered so it won't spark — paired with a toughened glass lid, and can go in the microwave with the lid on or off. Both use the same press-down vacuum seal and are leakproof once food has cooled.

The Clip & Seal Lunchbox and Twist & Lock Trio are your best bet — their silicone gasket seals mechanically, so it works straight away regardless of temperature. The Lunch Bowl and New Prep & Store use a vacuum seal instead, which only fully forms once food has cooled to room temperature, so they're better suited to a lunch you're packing ahead rather than something straight off the hob.

The Small and Medium sizes both include a removable divider as standard. The Large doesn't come with one, since it's designed more as a single, generous compartment for batch cooking or a bigger packed lunch — a spare divider can be bought separately if you'd like to split it.

Yes — spare dividers for the Clip & Seal range, along with spare silicone seals and lids across the collection, are available in our Accessories & Spares section, so a lost or worn part doesn't mean replacing the whole box.

Yes — the Clip & Seal Small and the Seal & Go Snack Pots are popular, easy-to-manage sizes for school lunches, and the clip closures and silicone lids are straightforward for kids to open and close themselves once they get the hang of it.
