It all starts with the campsite. Organisations such asEco-Friendly Tourist,The Greener Camping Club,Green Traveller and others provide a list of eco-friendly campsites around the UK. These campsites try and make sure that they’re not having a negative impact on the environment and often use green initiatives such as solar heated showers.
There is absolutely no reason not to bring reusable plates, cups, and cutlery with you on your trip. Ditch the plastic and get yourself an Elephant Box. Not only are they perfect for carrying your food but they can also be used for cooking in. Get yours here today.
Make your camping experience as plastic free as possible. Not only does this mean ditching the plastic plates and cups, it also means cutting down on plastic bags. Especially when they are prone to blowing away and into the wild.
While some plastics are almost entirely unavoidable when it comes to camping there are ways to avoid the dreaded plastic bag. Carry your food in a stainless steel container (see our range here) and any liquids in leak proof canisters (see our range here).
When it comes to foodstuffs it is important that they have as little packaging as possible. After all, if you’re having a snack halfway through your walk or cooking up a breakfast in the morning you still need to dispose of the packaging and if your campsite doesn’t have a recycling bin that means carrying it all back home with you.
The idea of bathing in a lake or a stream might sound idyllic, and it is - until your soap kills the surrounding wildlife. Be sure to use eco-friendly, chemical free soaps when out and about in the wild (and at home!).
Here are just six tips to help you make your camping a little bit greener. Most of the lessons in here can also be applied to real life. Look out for our forthcoming blog posts when we highlight some of our favourite spots and take a look at the dos and don’ts of wild camping.
