There’s something deeply satisfying about whipping up your own dips and dressings from scratch. Not only do they taste miles better than store-bought, they’re also cheaper, fresher, and—importantly—much kinder to the planet. One of the simplest steps we can take to reduce single-use plastic is to stop buying dressings and dips and start making our own.

Whether you’re prepping for a picnic, packing a work lunch, or just jazzing up a weeknight salad, homemade dressings and dips are the ultimate zero-waste kitchen win. And if you're wondering how to take them with you or store them at home without leaking plastic containers—don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Our range of airtight, leakproof stainless steel containers are perfect for the job.

Read on for four favourite recipes that are easy to make, taste amazing, and fit perfectly in our Dressing Pots, Snack Pots, Seal & Go Trio, or Twist & Lock 500ml container.

    1. Classic Homemade Hummus

Creamy, garlicky, and endlessly scoop-able, this hummus is a fridge staple and can be whipped up in under 5 minutes.

    Ingredients:

    • 1 tin of chickpeas (drained, liquid reserved)

    • 1 tbsp tahini

    • Juice of 1 lemon

    • 2 tbsp olive oil

    • ½ tsp ground cumin

    • 1 garlic clove, minced

    • Salt to taste

    • 2–3 tbsp water or aquafaba (liquid from the chickpeas)

    • Paprika for serving

    Method:

Blend everything except the water until smooth. Add water or aquafaba a tablespoon at a time until you reach your perfect consistency.

Pro tip: For an ultra-creamy result, blend the lemon juice and tahini first for a minute, then add the other ingredients step by step, blending each time.

Store in the fridge in the Twist & Lock 500ml container or the middle pot of the Seal & Go Trio—the perfect size for a generous helping of hummus.

    2. Turmeric Avocado Dressing

This golden dressing is taken from their brilliant book - the Hemsley sisters - Art of Living and it is pure sunshine in a jar—creamy, zesty, and full of goodness.

    Ingredients:

    • 60ml extra virgin olive oil

    • Juice of 1 lemon

    • ½ avocado

    • 1 garlic clove

    • 1 tbsp ground turmeric or 1cm piece of fresh turmeric

    • 1 tsp runny honey

    • Sea salt and black pepper

    • 100ml water (adjust for consistency)

    Method:

Blend everything together until smooth. Serve over big leafy greens or drizzle over grain bowls.

MAkes about 150ml - will keep in a fridge for a week. Dress your salads on the go with  our leakproof Dressing Pots and you’ve got yourself a vibrant, healthy lunch to go—no plastic needed.

    3. Fresh Tomato Salsa

Perfect in wraps, with tortilla chips, or spooned over grilled veggies. Just don’t forget to chop everything finely!

    Ingredients:

    • 4–6 ripe tomatoes, finely chopped

    • ½ red onion, finely chopped

    • 1 garlic clove, finely chopped

    • A splash of red or white wine vinegar

    • Juice of ½ a lime

    • ½ bunch of fresh coriander, roughly chopped

    Method:

Mix everything together in a bowl and refrigerate. This salsa is at its best after a couple of hours when the flavours have mingled.

Perfect to bring along in a Snack Pot—no leaks, no mess.

    4. Green Herby Salad Dressing

This one’s a fridge MVP: herb-packed, zesty, and endlessly customisable with whatever herbs you have to hand.

    Ingredients:

    • 240g chopped parsley

    • 120g mixed herbs (coriander, thyme, basil, mint, sage…)

    • 150ml olive oil

    • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar or lemon juice

    • 2 tbsp honey or maple syrup

    • 2 tsp Dijon or wholegrain mustard

    • ¼–½ tsp salt

    Method:

Blend everything with a stick blender until smooth. This makes about 300ml and keeps in the fridge for up to two weeks in an airtight Twist & Lock container. Give it a shake before each use.

    Why It Matters

Making your own dressings and dips helps you:

    • Cut down on single-use plastic tubs

    • Avoid unnecessary preservatives and additives

    • Save money (those little tubs add up fast!)

    • Reduce food waste by using up herbs and leftovers

And when you pair homemade food with our leakproof, plastic-free containers, you get a winning combo of practicality and sustainability.

So next time you think about grabbing a pre-made dip or salad dressing, pause and consider: could you whip it up in five minutes at home instead? You’ll be doing the planet (and your tastebuds) a big favour.
