Our membership of 1% for the Planet is incredibly important to us. 1% of every sale goes to support the organisations below. It's thanks to you, our customers that we can do this.

We get to choose which charities we support and it made total sense to us to support these three mind-blowingly brilliant organisations based here in the UK.  They align with our ethos and values and represent the change we want to see in the world.

Read on to see what they’ve been up to this year!

    Trees for Cities

Trees for Cities is the only national UK charity dedicated to urban trees. Getting stuck in with local communities to cultivate lasting change in their neighbourhoods – whether it’s revitalising forgotten spaces, creating healthier environments or getting people excited about growing, foraging, and eating healthy food.

This year they have planted 80533 trees, undertake 35 new school projects and engage 30032 pupils in school programmes.

Below you can watch a lovely documentary about an orchard in Tower Hamlets that Trees for Cities helped the community create.

    Seawilding

The award-winning charity, Seawilding, is the UK's first community-based native oyster and seagrass restoration project. Located in Loch Craignish, Argyll and Loch Broom, Wester Ross, their aim is to restore lost biodiversity, sequester carbon, create green jobs and mentor other community-based groups to do the same.

Seawilding told us about a major breakthrough in restoring seagrass meadows this year. Using a radical new approach that transplants adult seagrass shoots from existing “donor” meadows rather than the more usual method of planting seeds, the project has boosted seabed coverage at one site from 10% to 70% in just 15 months, with a 97% survival rate recorded in a more recent trial. This is just one of many innovative projects that Seawilding manage - find out more here or watch the video below.

    Surfers Against Sewage

The folk at Surfers Against Sewage have had another busy year!

Head over to their site to find info on biobeads or their end sewage pollution campaign. You'll also find a good summery of COP30 and the independent water commission's report on water quality. You can access sewage pollution reports or submit a sickness report if you've become ill after swimming in a river or the sea.

SAS continue to do massive work to protect rivers and seas from pollution. Putting pressure on our government, the water companies and the big brand polluters to stop water pollution. They host beach cleans, organise direct action events, conduct policy review and information gathering and distribution. We love them and are so happy to support what they do with your help!

What is 1% for the Planet and what does it do?

1% for the Planet is a fast growing international organisation whose members contribute at least one percent of their annual sales to environmental causes. Their mission is to

"build, support and activate an alliance of businesses financially committed to creating a healthy planet”.

The organisation now claims over 7265 + members in 110+ countries with over $823,000,000  in certified giving to date and we are extremely proud to be part of this global environmental alliance!  As part of this story, we were able to donate £5500 to our charity partners through 1% For the Planet this year.

Thank you, and wishing you a wonderful New Year!
